Ulmus parvifolia is the chinese elm…elms grow relatively quickly and are some of the tallest trees growing in England. They are flexible and resistant to water making them suitable for boat construction and after being hollowed out were often used as pipe. In the language of flowers, an elm shows dignity and grace. The first elm was thought to have sprung out of the ground by the playing of Orpheus on his lyre! And so dear parvifolia I mimic your leaf and flexibility for this sweet little cowl.
This is a pattern for a lace cowl or scarf with a leafy motif. If you are using the left over yarn from your Avignon shawl, you should have approx. 310 yards this will give you a short scarf or a nice sized cowl.
