Patchwork Farm Playset Knitting Pattern
This farmyard play set includes a blanket play mat, with decorations for the blanket (road, stream, etc), and farm animals. So you can use this blanket from birth to toddler and beyond, the decorations are knitted separately and can be sewn on or added during playtime later when suitable to the child’s age. Included in the pattern are the patchwork blanket knitted in aran yarn, and knitted in DK weight yarns are the decorative elements on the blanket (road, stream, fields, pond and mud wallow), hay bales, and the animals (sheep, cow, goat, pig, donkey, cockerel and chicks, goose, mallard and ducklings, and a sheepdog).

Designed by Amanda Berry @fluffandfuzz, this set is knitted in acrylic yarns. Most pieces are worked flat (back and forth) on a pair of straight single pointed knitting needles, not in the round. The crochet hooks are used to work single crochet chains for the hay bale straps, donkey and cow tails, and sheepdog’s collar. They are also used to add single or double crochet borders to the blanket and some of the blanket’s decorative elements.

A pair each of 3mm and 5mm single pointed knitting needles (US 2.5 & 8)

For the blanket, Sirdar Hayfield Bonus Aran (worsted weight/10 ply); 100% acrylic; four 100g skeins in green shades.
For the other elements, Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK (double knitting/light worsted weight/8 ply); 100% acrylic; one 100g/280m skein in each colour.

Tapestry needle, toy filling, a 3mm and 5mm crochet hook, pompom makers for the bushes, and domed black buttons for eyes.

One size only - The blanket is approximately 74cm x 96cm including crochet border. The hay bales are 10cm long, and the animals vary from 3cm to 13cm long.

For confident beginners and above, other techniques used include casting on and off, knits, purls, increases and decreases, short row shaping, knitting stripes, adding crochet borders, crochet single chains, Swiss darning embroidery, and seaming to finish.
