Pathfinder Cowl
Do other designs have you feeling lost in the woods? Literally miles of fingering weight projects in your queue got you down? We’ve all been there, you get excited about a new project, cast on, start out well but then somewhere in the middle get frustrated, or confused, or bored and just kind of let it sit for awhile.
Well my friends, I’m here to guide you out of the Dark WIP Forest and into the bright light of quick squishy goodness. The Pathfinder Cowl is simple stranded colorwork with decreases as you work toward the neckline. It’s similar to your favorite yoked sweater but without all the pesky having-to-knit-a-sweater bits.
Yarn:
First of all, I used all but the last couple of yards of each color, so gauge is important. However, even with the right gauge and yarn, it’s possible to run out early. (factors like Row Gauge, how long you leave your tails, not all skeins being exactly the same, the relative position of mercury in the night sky, and less consistent gauge in stranded colorwork all contribute) If you find yourself running out early, I’m officially giving you permission as the designer of this pattern and arbiter of all things “Pathfinder Cowl” to just let it go, move on with your life and with this pattern, and skip any rows you can’t complete, no one will ever know.
There, feel better? I mean I know from experience there are plenty of people who cannot let it go and will hunt down another skein for the like 3 yards they’ll need, but hey I tried.
Anyway, I used one skein each of four colors of Woolfolk Luft:
A (Gold) L04
B (Navy) L05
C (light Grey) L01
D (Maroon) T09
If you’re substituting, don’t go by the yards to grams ratio of this yarn, it’s unique construction makes it especially light weight. You want to either use a similar product (such as Blue Sky Fiber’s Techno) or a yarn that recommends between a US10 and US13 needle.
