The Payden cowl is quick-to-knit and full of texture. Worked flat, it starts with a provisional cast on, does just a few repeats of the main pattern, and then finishes up by grafting the two ends together. It is a companion to the hat and mittens patterns of the same name, and takes about a skein of Malabrigo Worsted to complete. Note that while those patterns sew the cast on and bind off edges together, the cowl uses the slightly more advanced grafting technique to create a smoother join. Payden, which can be either a girl’s or boy’s name, means “plaited.”
