Around the World: Northern Europe

This light-hearted waistcoat in cotton yarn is inspired by the intricately patterned traditional costumes of the Pearly Kings and Queens of London’s East End. Its button motifs are knitted in, while the matching tie and jaunty beret are decorated authentically with tiny pearl buttons.

Each district had its own Pearly King and Queen and they decorated their clothes with hundreds of pearl buttons in individual patterns, and incorporated lucky symbols like horseshoes and hearts.

The waistcoat in the photo is knitted in aran weight yarns which have some viscose/rayon which gives it a shine, it comes in 2 loose fit sizes.

You will need 425(475)g/15(17)oz in A and 75(100)g/3(4)oz in B
Plus 3 pearl buttons
