This pretty loop scarf is a great project for beginning lace knitters, or a relaxing and intuitive pattern for those with more experience. It uses less than one skein of yarn and is a great last-minute gift idea. The lace pattern at the base of the knitted loop forms gentle scallops, and two bands of textured eyelets add balance to the overall composition.
Construction
Cowl is worked in the round from the bottom up.
Yardage
Approximately 225 yards of fingering or sport weight wool yarn (see Gauge note below)
Yarn
1 skein of Brooklyn Tweed Loft (100% American Targhee-Columbia Wool; 275 yards/50g)
Sample shown in Postcard
Gauge
5½ stitches & 8 rounds = 1” in blocked Stockinette Stitch
Note: Because of Loft’s woolen-spun construction, it is able to achieve a Sport Weight gauge without losing fabric integrity. If you are subbing yarn, you will want to use a true Sport Weight wool, as most fingering weight yarns will not be able to achieve a suitable garment fabric at this gauge.
Needles
One 24” circular needle in size needed to obtain gauge listed above Suggested Size: US 5 (3¾ mm)
Finished Dimensions
43½“ circumference, 5½” wide; measurements taken from relaxed fabric after blocking
Skill Level
2 of 5
Please note: the stitch patterns in this garment are charted only.
