If you’ve always wanted to try a jumbo yarn, this may be just the project for you.

The stitch pattern is a simple repeat for the Showy Cable, a new faux cable technique that has been featured in some of my other patterns. It is based on the Showy Decrease which turns decreases into decorative elements that add texture to your knitting. I had hoped the crazy 2 sts per 4” gauge would really highlight that feature and it certainly did.

Needles
The yarn, which is currently available at both Michaels and Joanne’s, is so barely spun that it is almost like knitting with roving. The label calls for a US 50 (25mm) needle but I used a US 70 (35 mm) circular needle. The needle length should be around 47”. See blog for more on this.

Size and Yardage
This approximately 42” x 52” blanket used almost all of 3 balls of yarn. If you wanted to knit a wider blanket you will need a longer needle.

The blanket is heavy, very heavy which is part of its appeal. Although I have only had it in the house for a few days, everyone immediately gravitates towards it and won’t take it off their laps. It feels very much like one of those weighted therapy blankets.

Now that I have successfully knit the blanket with this acrylic / wool blend I am willing to invest in the more expensive pure wool yarns that are available.
