Penelope Chunky Mittens
Made from the same super bulky yarn that I use for most of my ‘Katniss’ (Catching Fire) inspired cowls, these mittens are a great coordinating item. You can either use the same color yarn, or even mix it up (as shown in the first photo) for a great look.
Pattern includes instructions for making the mittens fingerless or as full mittens, and features a gusset style thumb and a long, ribbed cuff.
Mittens shown with my ‘Panem’ cowl - Panem pattern can be found here:

Finished fingerless mittens measure about 14” long, and Full Mittens about 15.75” long.
Knitting progression is given in inches instead of rows in the pattern, so you can also make adjustments more easily for yarn that is a little lighter or heavier than the suggested yarn.
I think this pattern would be suitable for most ability levels, including adventurous newby knitters, even if you don’t know how to knit in the round. There are lots and lots of tutorials on youtube for those who want to learn :-)
The skills needed to make these mittens:
-knitting in the round on double point needles
-increasing and decreasing
-knit and purl stitch
-picking up and knitting stitches
-binding off stitches and casting on stitches
I am always available by email to answer any questions you may have once you get the pattern :-)
Material requirements:
As shown, approximately 106 yards for fingerless, 120 yards for full mittens.
