Penumbral is an opulent semi-circular shawl designed to play with colour. It begins with a wavy fan & chevron yoke which expands out to form petals edged with mesh. These flow into a section of mosaic with slipped stitch cables floating over the top, leading into the textured lace edge.

The shawl was designed for dye diana dye’s Speckle Party MAL, and so is intended for playing with speckled yarn, using a solid or semi solid for contrast. The pattern suits fingering weight yarn, ideally a solid colour and a complementary variegated.

Suits approx 800m of fingering weight yarn. For a larger shawl, try sport weight yarn - this will require greater yardage. The pictured shawl measures 160x75cm (63x30in) on a 5’9” model.

This pattern is charted only, with accompanying written notes.

Yardage info - Please note that while I’ve referenced the yardages I used in my shawl, the test knits all varied in their ratios and most required more than 400m of the third colour/edging yarn. If ordering yarn from Diana, it’s safest to have 2 skeins of the final/outer colour to save running short.
