I’ve always wanted to design a sweater worked side to side. After recently designing the Cable Tee with the sleeve band knit widthwise, I was ready to expand the technique to a full garment. I found the perfect stitch pattern whose side edge creates a lovely scalloped hem. The sweater needs to be robust to stretching in both directions, so I knit it at a slightly tighter gauge, which has the added benefit of showing off the stitch pattern nicely. The sweater body has a little extra ease to account for the reduced stretch of knit fabric in the lengthwise direction. Because of the tight gauge and extra ease, the sweater is warm and comfy. It will be a unique addition to your project queue and wardrobe.
