Pertaining to Foliage
Spring is nearly here! Watch the leaves unfurl as you work this exquisite lace shawl, which begins at the centre-top with a garter tab and works outwards to form a half-hexagon. Worked in two contrasting colours, the leaf lace flows into mesh openwork and back again, before finally finishing in a scalloped lace edging.
Blocked size is approximately 21” (53cm) deep at the centre, and the outer edge of each triangular section is approximately 39” (100cm). Wingspan along the top edge is approximately 60” (152cm). It is not vital to achieve the correct tension, although it can affect the yarn yardage needed. The sample is made with each lace leaf measuring 1.5” (4cm) across and 2” (5cm) high.
The shawl requires approximately 550 yards of the main colour and approximately 450 yards of the contrast colour. Alternatively, it can be made in one colour, requiring about 1100 yards of fingering weight yarn.
You need to be able to: work from a chart, work yarn-overs, single and double decreases (k2tog, ssk, sl2-k1-psso).
The lace and openwork are fully charted (charted only).
