Today is Pi Day!

Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π. It is observed on March 14 (the 3rd month) since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant figures of pi, and was first celebrated in the United States in 1988.

Pi is a special number that describes how many times the diameter of a circle fits into its circumference – about 3.14 times.

I need pi quite often, e.g. to calculate necklines.
And now also for striped socks.

Heute ist Pi-Tag!

Der Pi-Tag ist ein jährliches Fest zu Ehren der mathematischen Konstante π. Er findet am 14. März jedes Jahres statt und geht auf die US-amerikanische Datumsschreibweise 3/14 zurück, die aus den ersten drei Ziffern von Pi in der passenden Reihenfolge besteht.

Pi ist eine besondere Zahl, die angibt, wie oft der Durchmesser eines Kreises in dessen Umfang passt – etwa 3,14 Mal.

Ich brauche pi ganz oft, z. B. zur Berechnung von Halsauschnitten.
Und jetzt auch für eine Ringelsocke.
