On my side of the pond, we call these wellie socks. Kept really simple, knit from the toe up with contrasting toe, heel, and cuff. The heel is an afterthought heel worked after the rest of the sock is complete. This heel has the advantage of being really easy to replace should your puddle jumper be a tad too rough with these.
