Pikorua Shawl
Pay What Works: In an effort to find a balance between more financial accessibility and sustainable pricing, I now offer a “Pay What Works” model. This allows for financial flexibility while still valuing and respecting the work and energy I and others provide in the making of this pattern. The price shown on Ravelry is the “true” value of the pattern that best reflects the work put into creating this design.
To purchase the pattern at a price point that is more accessible to you, use the coupon code at checkout listed next to the price point. The prices indicate the price you will pay, not the discount amount. No coupon code is needed for the highest price point.

The Pikorua Shawl is a top-down asymmetrical triangular shawl, worked in alternating sections of garter stitch and simple lace, finished off with a braided lace stitch pattern.
“Pikorua” is Maori for “twist”, based on the pounamu twist design often found in Maori pendants. It symbolizes the bond between two people, whether founded in friendship, love, or blood (or knitting, for a less extreme version).
The lace edging of the shawl, a knitted representation of this “twist” design, is my way of expressing my bond and dedication to you, and the rest of the Fibre Muse community. When you knit this pattern, really think about the bonds you are forging or nurturing. You can do this by…
- Working it up in a yarn, from a yarn
maker that you really admire and want to support. - Make this shawl and gift it to a knit-worthy loved one, someone that you have bonded with (this is the perfect design for Giver Fibre Muses, I would say!).
- Or make it for yourself; the bonds that we have with ourselves are just as important as the bonds we forge with others.
This pattern has been both tech edited, and test knit to ensure a more enjoyable knitting experience. As part of pattern support, you get special access to HD images, video, and written tutorials on advanced techniques featured in the pattern.
