Pineapple Lace Vest
This top-down lace vest is knit in one piece, beginning with the back neck. The vest is worked down the back to underarms, then stitches are picked up for fronts and knitted down to join at underarm, then knitted to bottom edge. Slip-stitch crochet is used creatively to allow for seamless construction.
This stitch pattern is adapted from “Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible: 260 Exquisite patterns by Hitomi Shida”, translated by Gayle Roehm, stitch #150.
Because of the width of the stitch motif, there are only 3 sizes, which are entirely charted. You can choose different yarn and needle sizes to adjust the size to your personal fit, keeping in mind that there will be 10, 12 or 14 repeats of the pattern around the body of the vest.
You could also add purl stitches between the motifs to customize the size if desired. Lace is very stretchy, especially after blocking, so keep this in mind As always, swatching is your friend! I love linen for its coolness, excellent stitch definition and drape, but substituting a sport-weight or DK weight wool and using a larger needle can also give the desired gauge. Enjoy the process!
