Pinnate Cardigan
Pinnate: Having leaflets arranged in two rows along an axis. From Taylor’s Guide to Perennials. Inspired by a Victorian shirt waist, updated to a modern a-line silouette with ¾ set-in sleeves and a shawl collar. Columns of rose leaves from hem to bind off create a long line on a stockinette stitch body with a simple eyelet stitch panels on the shoulders for a light and lacy cardigan, a little cover up for sleeveless dresses and camisoles, romantic, cool and comfortable.
The body is worked back and forth in rows to the under arm, the fronts and back are divided and worked separately to the shoulders which are bound off and sewn together. The fronts extend around to the back of the neck and are grafted together at the center back and sewn into place. The sleeves are knitted in the round to the underarm then the sleeve caps are worked back and forth in rows and sewn into the arm opening. The fronts extend around to the back of the neck and are grafted together at the center back and sewn into place.
Requires 1000 (1070, 1220, 1370, 1530) yards Sport or DK weight yarn knit at a relaxed but not transparent gently blocked 5 ½ sts to the inch. This pattern is ripe for yarn substitutions but when selecting alternative yarns please keep in mind that a yarn with a lot of body (i.e. wools, some cottons, etc) will create a very different garment and a very different fit. Yardages are approximate and individual mileage may very.
