This is a written pattern in both UK and US terminology with row by row instructions and colour photos for each stage to crochet a plaid tote bag with fringed edges. It includes joining details and how to create the handle.

This is a simple project, which creates a beautiful plaid/gingham fabric bag, using just dc (sc) and chains. A very pretty fabric, which is easier than it looks! Suitable for beginners.

I have created this bag with 4 colours, but it would work equally well with two.

The sample bag in the pictures came up at 20 cm wide by 28 cm deep with DK yarn and a 4mm hook. A chunky yarn with a 5mm hook came up at 30cm wide. I would recommend using a cotton or cotton blend for a bag.

This pattern is fully adaptable and details the chain multiples needed to make a wider bag, also with options for a square version rather than rectangle.

This stitch could also be used for other projects; it would make a gorgeous cushion or blanket.
