Many minds went into the design of this hoodie. But then, I think that is true of all new designs as we owe so much to all those who have gone before us and are our teachers.

For the pocket, Suzanne Bryan became a major resource. Her series on pockets in recent Cast On issues, plus her videos on YouTube, taught me everything I needed to create a kangaroo pocket that was not just an “after-thought” add-on. Instead, I designed a knitted-in (inset) pocket that also had some depth below the horizontal openings.

As for the hood, I found some designs that used decreases and some that used short rows to round the back of the hood. I settled on a short-row approach and modified it to create a more rounded hood with a nice swirl of stitches around the crown. Finally, I needed to work out the size, first creating a hood that was too tight, then another that was way too big, and finally creating the Goldilocks “just right” size.
