The Plait Hat is a quirky design equally suitable for summer music festivals or winter snow. It is made from three flat panels which are seamed and finally braided together in the form of I-cord at the top. The fun colours are enhanced with an offset brim where each panel has the ribbing colour of the panel next to it.

Techniques: Knit, Purl, K2tog, ssk, I-cord, seaming with mattress stitch.

Yarn requirements: 3 harmonising or contrasting colours of worsted-weight yarn, 50-65 yards of each. (all three yarns should have a similar fibre content, ply etc). Sample required 25g/55yds of each of three colours of Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Worsted.

Knit at gauge, the hat fits heads between 17 and 25 inch circumference and is therefore suitable to be worn by everyone from three-year-olds to grown men. A pattern note explains how to shorten the hat a little for a better fit for younger children.
