Ply is a versatile, wear-with-everything cardigan with the perfect balance of interesting design details, satisfyingly special techniques, and a moderate helping of soothing stockinette knitting. This cardigan features a slightly A-line shape with set-in sleeves and deep front pockets. It is knit flat in pieces and seamed, and has double-knit stockinette trims at the bands and cuffs. Ply’s simple stitch patterns and ‘texture-blocking’ make Ply a great pattern to showcase hand-dyed, semi-solid and tonal yarns.
Knit in a lightweight wool-silk blend, Ply is an understatedly modern take on a classic style that is sure to become a wardrobe staple. The stockinette trims, slight A-line fit of the body, split hem bands, and dramatic diagonal pockets make this cardigan anything but basic.

MATERIALS
1770 (1900, 2000, 2260, 2400, 2630) total yards of sport-weight yarn; wool/silk blends are recommended
Sample is shown knit in Brooks Farm Yarn ‘Lumine’ (60% wool/40% silk). Note that this yarn is listed as a DK in the Ravelry database, but works up to a sport-weight gauge.

SUGGESTED NEEDLES
Size A (for Main Fabric)
One 32ʺ (minimum) circular needle in size needed to obtain gauge listed
Recommended Size: US 2.5 / 3 mm

Size B (for Bands and Trims)
One 32ʺ (minimum) circular needle, two sizes smaller than Size A
Recommended Size: US 1 / 2.25 mm

GAUGE
25 stitches x 32 rows = 4ʺ in stockinette stitch and double-knit stockinette stitch for pockets with Size A needle(s), after blocking
26 stitches & 40 rows = 4ʺ in double-knit stockinette stitch for trims with Size B needle(s), after blocking
Note: Gauge for double-knit stockinette is measured as seen on one side of fabric only. Some knitters may find they need to use a needle 1-2 sizes smaller than Size A to maintain gauge during double-knit section of pocket construction.

FINISHED DIMENSIONS
34 (37 3/4, 42, 46 1/2, 49 3/4, 54 1/4)ʺ circumference at bust (buttoned)
Intended Ease: + 2–3”
Sample shown is size 42” with 2” ease on model

Instructions are provided for special techniques, including the Tubular Cast-On and Sloped Bind-Off.

Note that Magic Loop is not used in this pattern, however, a general familiarity with the arrangement of stitches on a circular needle when working Magic Loop will be helpful in understanding the tubular pocket construction.

Pattern includes detailed flat schematics for all pieces, as well as an ‘assembled’ schematic with finished garment measurements in order to make size selection easier.
