Pockets of Joy - Susannah
This granny square pattern was inspired by so many happy moments of connection, creativity and laughter at the Crochet Guild Australia Conference in Sydney, June 2023.
Keep an eye out for more Pockets of Joy from Dedri of Look What I Made, Petra of Black Sheep Crochet and Shelley of Shelley Husband Crochet as many of these joyous moments were from time spent together getting to know each other!
Yarn Used and Size of Square
I used 4 ply Pima cotton “Avalon” from Morris & Sons, combined with their “Maya” laceweight baby alpaca held double stranded. This produces a square size suited to joining to form a pin cushion for tapestry needles.
Heavier or lighter weighted cottons (along with suited hook size) will produce a smaller or larger square.
Yardage
Morris & Sons “Avalon 4ply” (100% Pima cotton, 170m/50g) in 3 colours:
Yarn A: Silica 4441 x 1 ball
Yarn B: Graphite 4442 x 1 ball
Yarn C: Talc 4402 x 1 ball
(Each square weighs approx. 9-10 grams, so you can make 4-5 squares per ball of Avalon).
Yarn D: Morris & Sons “Maya Laceweight” (100% baby alpaca, 400m/50g) x 1 ball colour Harvest 3217
Hook
3.5mm (US E/4) crochet hook
Other Materials
Tapestry needle
Completed Squares
Each finished square (blocked) measures 11.3cm x 11.3cm, with 2 different embellishment patterns.
