The Polar Latitude Sweater is an intermediate level DK weight sweater worked in a diamond cable pattern throughout the body and stockinette sleeves. It has a crew style neckline with a picked up collar, and is worked top down (flat for the armhole shaping, then in the round for the remainder of the body and sleeves) with a modified drop shoulder construction. The yoke section is worked at a smaller stitch count than the full bust (size dependent), and has some increases at the bottom, and underarm cast-on stitches to increase to the full bust measurement. The sleeves have a small amount of short row shaping at the top before working straight. The collar, cuffs and bottom edge have a 1x1 ribbed hem. The sweater is designed to fall to a high hip level. The pattern is intended to be a boxy fit, but has options for slight waist shaping if desired, as well as adjusting length as needed for the body and sleeves. This is a size inclusive design, written for 8 sizes (32-74 inch / 80-185 cm finished bust, in 6 inch / 15 cm increments) and designed for 2-8 inches / 5-20 cm of positive ease.

Sizes offered:
1 (2, 3, 4)(5, 6, 7) 8
Sizes 7 and 8 are untested. If you would like to knit any of these sizes and provide feedback, I would be happy to refund your pattern purchase.
Finished sweater bust of:
32 (38, 44.25, 50.25)(56.5, 62.5, 68.5) 74.5 inches / 80 (95, 110.5, 125.5)(141.5, 156.5, 171.5) 186.5 cm
To fit actual bust of:
24-30 (30-36, 36-42, 42-48)(48-54, 54-60, 60-66) 66-72 inches / 60-75 (75-90, 90-105, 105-120)(120-135, 135-150, 150-165) 165-180 cm
Note: The sizes reflect the FINISHED bust measurements in inches / cm of the sweater, and listed below you can see the recommended actual bust range for each size. The sweater is designed for 2-8 inches / 5-20 cm of positive ease. To determine the size you wish to knit, measure your bust and add 2-8 inches / 5-20 cm to find the closest size. If you are in between sizes, size down for a snugger fit, or up for a looser fit. My sample is knit with 7.25 inches / 18 cm of positive ease (Size 3 on a 37 inch / 90 cm bust and 30 inch / 75 cm waist).
Note: If you are fairly busty, you may want to use less positive ease, or knit a size based on your upper bust measurement rather than your full bust measurement. This will help prevent the sweater being too loose around the rest of your torso.
Needles recommended:
4.5 mm / US 7 / UK 7 (or size needed to obtain gauge) - main body
4 mm / US 6 / UK 8 (or size needed to obtain gauge) - ribbing
Cord length to match your bust measurement as well as 9-16 inch / 22.5-40 cm cord for the sleeves (or DPNs or 32-40 inch / 80-100 cm cord for the magic loop method).
Gauge (blocked):
Diamond Cable pattern (see gauge Chart):
Using 4.5 mm / US 7 / UK 7 (body) needles
I recommend swatching both in the round and flat, as parts of the sweater are knit flat before joining in the round. If your flat gauge is significantly different than your round gauge, you can adjust needle size for the flat portion.
4 x 4 inch / 10 x 10 cm = 21 sts x 30 rows/rounds
Stockinette:
Using 4.5 mm / US 7 / UK 7 (body) needles
4 x 4 inch / 10 x 10 cm = 20 sts x 26 rows/rounds
1 x 1 Ribbing:
Using 4 mm / US 6 / UK 8 (ribbing) needles
4 x 4 inch / 10 x 10 cm = 24 sts x 32 rounds
Note: Blocking is extremely important for this pattern, as the cable texture scrunches up a lot when unblocked, particularly in length.
Yarn recommended:
One colour of any DK weight yarn to match gauge.
Sample #1 (teal) is knit using Explorer Knits + Fibers - Cashmere DK (80% Superwash Merino, 10% Nylon, 10% Cashmere, 231 yds / 211 m per 100g) in the colourway Jökulsárlón.
Sample #2 (blue) is knit using Pasley Knits - Organic DK (100% 21 micron Organic GOTS Certified Non-Chlorinated Machine-Washable Merino, 251 yds / 230 m per 100g) in the colourway Looks Like Meats Back On The Menu Boys.
A great commercial alternative is Knitpicks Swish DK!
Estimated Yardage / Meters:
1030 (1170, 1380, 1435)(1515, 1720, 1885) 2015 yds / 942 (1070, 1262, 1312)(1385, 1573, 1724) 1843 meters
Yardage / Meters per additional inch / 2.5 cm of body length:
30 (36, 41, 47)(53, 58, 64) 70 yds / 27 (33, 37, 43)(48, 53, 59) 64 meters
Note: Yardage is an approximation and is calculated using the recommended measurements (see schematics on page 5-6), plus approximately 5% extra. Most testers used less than the estimated yardage amounts above. Allow for extra yardage if choosing to add length. Yardage can vary depending on your gauge and knitting, so I always recommend buying extra in case you require more yardage.
