I have knit this hat several times in several ways. It is very easy to modify. I knit the first one, which this pattern is based off of, in a sock-weight yarn. I used more wedges than the Zeebee pattern to get it rounder on the top, and from above it sort of mimics the look of the decrease points on a regular knitted hat.
You can easily add earflaps using increases, or make it smaller/larger by adding wedges or subtracting wedges. You can knit it in stockinette, or cables, or any stitch pattern really. I just like garter stitch because it’s fast and snuggly.
