I wore an orange poncho I knit many years go, and my friend, Kathy, asked what the pattern was. I told her I had made it up. She picked out her yarn right then and there (we both work in a yarn shop) and made me go home to dig out my notes. Luckily I had written down most of what I had done and was able to recreate it. She knit it up in a weekend.
Sadly, the yarn in which I knit the original poncho has been discontinued so I named this poncho pattern for the color of the original one. “Naranja” means orange in Spanish.
The response for Poncho Naranja has been overwhelming. Thank you to the team and customers at A Yarn Less Raveled in Danville, CA, for all your encouragement and support. You’re the best!
This poncho is dedicated to Kathy for making me move on writing the pattern and to Lee who has been so patient.
Poncho Naranja is a versatile poncho which can be worn for function while making a fashion statement. It is a great accessory for all seasons. You’ll want to make one in a variety colors and fibers, and Poncho Naranja works up quickly for a last-minute gift!
Poncho Naranja has a rhythmic stitch pattern and works up quickly. You have a choice of two finishing options. You can seam the pieces together (Finishing Option 1). Or you can do a 3-needle bind-off to assemble the poncho (Finishing Option 2). The 3-needle bind-off creates a ridge on the outside of the poncho, giving a nice, decorative finish to the seam. Refer to instructions for Finishing Options before beginning your poncho to decide which option you prefer. A photo tutorial and schematic are included.
Extra yarn is included in the yarn requirement.
