Ponte Top is a pure celebration of texture. The pattern continues the line of designs inspired by the abundance of details in Italian architecture, this time spotlighting Venetian bridges. Ponte (bridge in Italian) translates the curves, columns, and even railings into well-balanced flowy knitted fabric.

The top is worked sideways. The variety of textures guarantees the best “one more row” kind of knitting experience. I-cord cast on, bind off, and edging polish the piece off. The finished top has a lot of built-in positive ease and can be worn at least two ways - with a v-neck or a boat neck - which makes it a perfect throw-over piece for when a bit of extra warmth is needed.

• Sample Top yarn: Kinu by ITO (100% silk, 464yds / 425m, 1.75oz / 50g) in color Angora, held double, a total of 5 (6, 6) (7, 7, 8) cones

Needles

• US 6 / 4mm circular needles on at least 32” / 80cm cable, two sets (one is used for three needle bind off)
• DPNs of matching size for the i-cord
• Swatch to determine your needle size that helps to fit the gauge; needle size above is a suggestion

Gauge

• 21sts and 33 rows in 4” / 10cm in stockinette stitch, blocked

Construction

• The top is worked flat in two identical panels sideways. Each panel starts with an optional i-cord cast on. Then the panel is knit from the arm up to the neckline.

• Once finished, the panels are “seamed” with 3-needle bind off at what could be imagined as shoulder seams. The neckline opening is finished off with i-cord edging.

• The fabric is worked in a variety of horizontal textural patterns. The edges feature the built-in i-cord for a polished look.

• The length and the width of the top are easy to adjust to fit the desired measurements. Sides can be seamed as well, but this will prevent the top from being reversible.
