Excerpt from Bargello Knits

One of the first yarns that I found for bargello knitting was the “Paints” series from Cascade. This sleeveless shell uses Luna Paints to illustrate various ways that the colors will pool on purpose, or POP, when worked into a garment with basic sweater shaping. As expected, the bargello checkerboard appears when working with five stitches per segment. On its own, however, the handpainted yarn pools in an argyle pattern across the full width of the piece then changes to stripes after the armhole decreases and neck shaping. Yarn, needles, and tension are the same throughout; the stitch count is the variable that determines the coloration.

Pattern notes
This project is constructed in two pieces from the bottom up. After completing the bargello section, the body sections are worked with a single strand of the handpainted yarn. When joining a new strand of yarn, do so at the beginning of a row at the same point in the color order where the old yarn left off.
