Porthmear isn’t so much a knitting
pattern as a knitting philosophy. It was
inspired by two simultaneous events.
The first was the arrival of our
beautiful Scottish Handspun yarns,
and it will only work with a hand spun,
‘slubby’ or ‘thick and thin’ yarn. The
texture of the yarn is what dictates the
lace pattern and gives the lace its
unique beauty. No two shawls will be
the same!
The second was my desire to knit a
lace pattern that would be intricate
and delicate but require no charts,
pattern or thinking whatsoever. I just
wanted to sit at the beach, stare at the
sea and knit!
