Prancing Slippers
In my humble opinion, when it comes to Christmas, Santa’s Reindeer should play a starring role, shouldn’t they? Don’t get me wrong, I do love Santa and his elves, and who doesn’t? Yes, they are great, but the ten reindeer, each with its own story and its own brilliant and sparkling personality, are a key part of the magic that makes so much illusion possible. By the way, girls (and guys), did you know that Santa’s reindeer are actually all female?.
Reading over the personality of each one, I totally feel a special liking for Prancer. I have two things in common with her: she, like me, has a tendency to think out loud when trying to solve a problem (like I do when working out the numbers of a pattern). Secondly, because her special skill - every reindeer has one - is prancing, and it just so happens that doing pirouettes and prancing around on my ice skates is one of my favorite hobbies.
The slippers are knitted flat for the heel and then joined in the round for the rest of the foot. The toe is grafted with Kitchener stitch; both parts of the heel are joined with mattress stitch.
The pattern differs for the right and left top of foot.
Photo and video tutorials for the Latvian Braid are provided in the pattern.
Please note the colorwork is charted only.
