Pattern Description from Cast On, May-July 2009: “The argyle diamonds in this vest use intarsia technique. The crossing stitches or diagonals can either be knit in with the intarsia technique or they can be added using duplicate stitch. Swatch to see which method produces the best tension. This garment is truly gender and age neutral in its basic shape. Alter the colors used in the diamonds and crossing stitches to purple, pink and green and the vest becomes the finishing touch to a girl’s perfect outfit. Using charcoal grey, red and black for the diamonds and crossing stitches , respectively, adds a sophisticated flair even a picky pre-teen boy would wear. Toddlers love bright colors and pastels are perfect for little girls. Don’t be afraid to experiment with color. Use a color wheel to help choose harmonious tones. Picking colors of equal saturation will help ensure a successful match; combining either deep jewel tones or light pastels.”
