Olga has always loved knitted dresses. To her they look even more feminine than those made with woven fabric. For this design, she wanted to use three parts of the Double Leaves and Twists stitch pattern, but in a different order than Shirley’s inspiration piece. When Olga swatched this pattern, she noticed the difference in gauges between each of the 3 parts. The stitch count remained the same, but the knitted fabric stretched differently in the different pattern sections. She decided to use this to her advantage to avoid having to do a lot of shaping. Olga worked the Twisted Ribbing for the central part of the dress, then the Wraps section, which is a denser pattern, beneath the bust, and finally, the Double Leaves pattern for the bust area. In this way, the dress design could flare at the bottom, then very naturally show the curves of the body without having to do many calculations.
