Happy First Anniversary to The Yarn Stop!

Or, Aniversario Primero.
And since the prototype of this cowl was knit in the Aniversario colorway, let’s just go with Primero.

The year from September 2016 to September 2017 has been a good one for me and for the newest LYS in the Detroit area. I’m proud to teach there, and to offer my designs to the best owners, customers and students I know.

* sniff *

Okay, enough with the touchy-feely stuff. Here’s what you really want to know…

Primero is a long möbius cowl, worked in a reversible stitch pattern. It’s long enough to double, or you can wear it long. Or even pull it up over your head, Babushka-style! The stitch pattern consists of only knits and purls, and is gender-neutral. (Doesn’t Christopher the mannequin look fabulous in it?)

The prototype used one skein of Dos Tierras in the Aniversario colorway, and there was not a lot left. If you want to make your Primero wider, just add another skein and keep going.

The Details

Item: Möbius Cowl

Yarn: Malabrigo Dos Tierras, or other DK weight yarn, approx. 190 yards

Needle: US6 47” or longer circular needle. Yes, you need a long circular for möbius knitting. Longer than you think.

Finished Size: 5” wide x 54” circumference (measured at cast on spine)

Stitches Used: knit and purl. Optional yarn over in bind off row (to maintain stretchiness)

Skills Needed: Cat Bordhi’s Möbius Cast On

Gauge: 18 sts/28 rounds = 4” in broken rib as described in pattern (gauge is not critical, but will affect the yardage needed to complete the pattern as written)
