Prismatic is a colorwork sweater that lets your yarn do the talking. The bold geometric yoke frames the shoulders and shows off contrast colors beautifully, while the classic silhouette keeps it easy to wear day to day.

Knit seamlessly from the top down, the construction makes it simple to adjust length and refine fit as you go. The pattern also includes video tutorials to help with color choices and sizing, so you can approach colorwork with confidence whether it’s your first sweater or your tenth.

Design Details

Prismatic features a bold geometric yoke that sits like a garland across the shoulders, framing the neckline and letting your contrast colors really shine. Short rows shape the back neck for a comfortable, natural fit so the colorwork lands exactly where it should.

The classic silhouette keeps the focus on the yoke. An easy to knit stockinette body and sleeves let the motif do the talking and the small contrast yardage requirements make this a perfect project for a special skein you’ve been saving or leftovers from your stash.

Pattern Highlights

  • Seamless top down construction
  • Colorwork focused in the yoke
  • Straightforward stockinette body knitting
  • Great for small contrast skeins

Construction Overview

Prismatic is worked seamlessly from the top down in the round.

The sweater begins with the stranded colorwork yoke. Once the yoke depth is reached, stitches are separated for the body and sleeves. The body is knit in the round to the desired length.

Sleeves are then picked up and worked in the round with decreases for shaping.

Yarn Notes

We knit our sample in Seismic Yarn & Dyeworks Butter Sock, a fingering weight merino nylon blend with crisp stitch definition and enough structure to support the colorwork.

The yoke uses small amounts of contrast yarns while the body highlights the main color, making this a great project for a special skein or leftover contrast colors.

Fiber: 85% extra fine superwash merino / 15% nylon
Yardage: 437 yds (400 m) per 100 g skein

Any fingering weight yarn with clear stitch definition will work well. Tonals and lightly speckled yarns both show the motif clearly.

  • US 3 (3.00 mm) circular needles
