Protection Shawl

This shawl was designed to give a workshop about short rows at Laboratorio de Tejido, a project where we teach “knitting things” with @veriton (Veroniva Oliveira)

As you can deduce from the previous sentence, one of the characteristics of this shawl is that it works with short rows to achieve its particular shape…not forgetting the twisted stitch that gives the rhythm to the piece.

The result is an asymmetric shawl with a romantic touch, given by the final ruffled…a feminine and protective cape.

As for the name … lately when I choose names these are related to a feeling, encouragement, need, etc. When I started designing this shawl I was feeling that I needed a cape that would protect me and maybe give me new powers! I can affirm: It was a success! Obviously now I have more powers! :slightly_smiling_face:

Technical Specifications

Finished measurements
55 inches (140 cms) from side to side and 26 inches (66 cms) from top to bottom at deepest point (after blocking).

Materials
Worsted weight yarn
Malabrigo Rios, 100% superwash merino wool, 100 grs. / 210/192 yards/meters per skein.
- 2 skeins of color A (shown in Frank Ochre) 420 yds/384mts
Manos del Uruguay Alegría Grande, 75% merino superwash, 25% nylon , 100 grs. / 218/200 yards/meters per skein.
- 1 skein of color B (shown in Orla). 218 yds/200 mts

Needles and Tools
5.5 mm / 9 US, knitting needles.
5 stitches markers and1 tapestry needle

Gauge
15 stitches, 16 rows to 4 inches (10 cms) in garter stitch. Gauge is not crucial for this project. However, changes might result in a different yardage requirement.

Techniques
I-cord tab cast on, knit stitches, short rows, twisted stitch, increasing, I-cord bind off.
