This convertible pattern is designed to be worn either as a Prudence cap on the head or around the neck as a ruff.
Rowan Pure Wool 4 Ply, 100% wool yarn, fingering weight, 174 yards (159.1 m)/50 gram (1.8 oz) ball, 1 ball of #445 Chalk (MC; blue) and 1 ball of #412 Snow (CC)
Needles, size 3 (3.25mm) or size needed to obtain gauge
Ribbon, 2½ inches (6.3 cm) wide, 1 yard (0.9 m) to match MC

Finished size: 16 inches (40.6 cm) wide and 9 inches (22.9 cm) tall

The original pattern is in the fifth edition of The Lady’s Assistant for Executing Useful and Fancy Designs in Knitting, Netting, and Crochet Work (Edinburgh: I. J. Gaugain, 1842). Mrs. Gaugain calls for Berlin wool and No. 9 (U.S. size 5, 3.75 mm) needles.
