“Prunus” is a loose-fitting wraparound cardigan knit from the top down.
The garment is knit in stockinette stitch with a large twisted rib and cable motif on the back and two similar smaller motifs along the sides. First the back is knit by casting on all of the stitches necessary and working a series of short rows.
At the same time, the stitches are set up for knitting the large center motif. Upon completion of the short rows, the work continues flat in rows worked back and
to the end of the yoke. At this point the stitches are transferred to waste yarn.
The stitches for the first half of the front are picked up. A series of increases are made and the stitches are set up for the twisted rib border. The knitting continues back and forth to the end of the yoke; at this point the stitches are transferred to waste yarn.
The second half of the front is worked as for the first.
Now the three pieces are joined, the armholes are shaped, the two smaller motifs are started and the cardigan is knit to the desired length. The cardigan can be personalized by adding buttonholes along one of two front borders.
The construction used creates a garment with a back that is longer than the front, adding an interesting touch to the cardigan.
Stitches along the armholes are picked up to knit the sleeves, with evenly distributed decreases. The sleeved also have a twisted rib border.

Shown in size M with bust size 96 cm – 38 in and with 23 cm – 9 in of positive ease.

Yarn and needles:
LIFE IN THE LONG GRASS DK Twist: Plum (DK weight yarn: 100% Merino; 230 m – 252 yds / 115 gr – 4.06 oz. skein): 5 (5, 5, 6, 6, 7) skeins (945 1100, 1150, 1250, 1350, 1470 m – 1034 1203, 1258, 1368, 1477, 1608 yds).
Circular needles:
3.5 mm – US 4 with an 80 cm – 32 in cable. If necessary, please adjust needle size to obtain the specified gauge.
Other:
Tapestry needle and scissors.
8 stitch markers.
Cable needle.
Waste yarn.
Optional:
6 buttons, diameter 1.8 cm – ¾ in.
Row counter to keep track of rows of the cable stitches.
Paper and pencil to help keep track of the cable stitches.

Gauge:
20 sts and 28 rows/rounds = 10 cm – 4 in in st st (after blocking).

“Prunus” è un cardigan dalla linea ampia, lavorato dall’alto verso il basso.
È lavorato interamente a maglia rasata, con l’inserimento di un grande motivo a coste ritorte e intrecci sulla schiena e di due motivi più piccoli che riprendono il motivo più grande in corrispondenza dei fianchi.
Si incomincia a lavorare il dietro. Si montano tutte le maglie necessarie e si incomincia a lavorare I ferri accorciati. Contemporaneamente si inizia anche ad impostare la lavorazione per il grande motivo centrale. Alla fine dei ferri accorciati, la lavorazione prosegue in piano fino alla fine dello sprone. A questo punto le maglie sono lasciate in sospeso su un pezzo di filo di scarto.

Si continua riprendendo le maglie per il primo davanti lungo il bordo dell’avvio. A questo punto si lavorano una serie di aumenti e si imposta la lavorazione del bordo a coste ritorte. Si continua la lavorazione in piano fino alla fine dello sprone; a questo punto le maglie sono lasciate in sospeso su un pezzo di filo di scarto.
Il secondo davanti è lavorato speculamente al primo.
A questo punto si uniscono i tre pezzi, creando anche gli scalfi, inserendo i due motivi più piccoli e si continua a lavorare fino a raggiungere la lunghezza desiderata. È possibile personalizzare il cardigan, inserendo le asole per i bottoni lungo uno dei due bordi.
Infine si riprendono le maglie lungo gli scalfi e si lavorano le maniche, distribuendo le diminuzioni.
Le maniche sono completate da un bordo a coste ritorte.
