Pushkar means lotus, the national flower of India and said to be the seat of Brahma. I learnt this at Birmingham’s Pushkar restaurant. The food was lovely, as were the cocktails. I had only just started working on this design at the time, and as it uses the lotus flower stitch, the name seemed fitting.

This is a triangular shawl knitted from the bottom up using a combination of the lotus flower stitch and increases. The stitch produces a lovely textured fabric with repeats of what looks like lotus flowers floating on water.

You’ll need 3.25 needles (I use circulars but straight work too) and three skeins of Araucania Botany Lace, although any laceweight yarn should work. I wouldn’t use anything too ‘fluffy’ as you’ll lose the detail of the stitch.
