These mittens are constructed like a traditional Selbu Mitten, with a thumb gusset.

The name Putevanter comes from Pute (cushion) and vanter (mittens).
In most parts of Norway you would call it votter - like in Selbuvotter, but on the west coast of southern Norway, mittens are called vanter.

The pattern is inspired by the cross stitched cushions you would find in my great grandmothers living room.

It is a traditional Norwegian pattern also found in other types of textile crafts.

yarn: Rauma Finull/Pt2, 175m (191yd) / 50g
MC: 50 g Cream col. 401
CC: 50 g Gray col. 414
needles: 2,5mm (US 11/2), DPNs or circular needle (magic-loop)
gauge: 32 sts / 40 rows = 10 cm (4inch) in stranded pattern
size: to fit average womans hand;
circumference: 20 cm
length: 27 cm.
notions: 2 stitch markers, stitch holder or waste yarn, tapestry needle

To alter the size:
Use needles 2,25 mm / US 1 to make them smaller
Use needles 2,75 mm / US 2 to make them bigger

To make a men´s size: use a DK weight yarn like Rauma 3 ply, and needles 3mm / US 2.5.
