Questions and Answers
The Questions and Answers shawl is part of The Chekhov Collection, three shawls by Kino Knits. These shawls showcase one, two, and three colors, respectively. All three shawls are asymmetrical triangles that are flexible; they can be knit in any yarn weight/gauge and any yardage!
The Questions and Answers shawl uses fairly mindless knitting and contrasting skeins to result in bold color play. Starting at one corner and increasing to the other side, each stripe dances across almost to the other edge, where it is met and answered by its contrasting partner. Because the edges have twisted garter strips in the contrasting color, you never have to cut your yarn or carry it up the edge, so there are only four ends to weave in at the end. Have skeins of unusual size? This shawl is perfect using up every bit of yardage, regardless of how much you have – just knit until you almost run out of yarn. The twisted edge can even be used for styling – just thread a shawl end through one of the gaps!
Here’s what testers had to say:
- “I loved the clever construction!”
- “This was a fun pattern to knit! I like patterns I can easily memorize so I don’t have to constantly check the pattern and lose valuable knitting time.”
- “I loved striping and ‘carrying’ the yarn by the twisted stitch details. It was so much fun - very rhythmical.”
Skills: simple increases, decreases, and color changes. Some yarn manipulation required for the twisted garter edge. If you twist it the wrong way, there’s a video tutorial on the Kino Knits YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/Kox-QbE5egA for how to fix it.
