Railway
Railway came about from thinking about travel and how little we can do in this current climate-I wanted it to represent all the tracks in our lives thus far and the many journeys we still take, even virtually or in our own minds.
Railway is a knitted triangle wrap that starts from a point and increases in width along the left side. It is constructed using two contrasting yarns with long repeats of colour and an I-cord edging on both sides leading to a ribbed panel to finish. Railway also looks fabulous knit in two different plain yarns, or using one cake of gradient yarn like Scheepjes Whirl.
The original is worked in 2 balls of Zauberball 100: shade 2305 and 2309, one of each.
Yarn Requirements:
2 different colourways of fingering yarn (400m/459yds each), either with long colour repeats, two contrasting single colours each or a combination of the two as detailed above. Total needed: 800m (918yds approx).
Pattern Type:
Instructions are written out using abbreviations. Repeats are listed with a stitch count at the end of each.
Gauge for sample:
26 sts x 30rows blocked (10cm square), but not essential.
Sizing for sample:
Wingspan: 56” or 142.5cm approx
Depth: 30.5” or 77.5cm approx.
Difficulty: Intermediate
Pattern requires basic knowledge of stranded colourwork (how to carry unused yarn accross the back over 2 stitches), but an advanced beginner could pick this project up.
