The inspiration for this pattern came from the iconic salt shower depicted on Morton Salt boxes. I gave myself the challenge of reproducing in knitting the graceful curve of spilling salt. I chose a raindrop pattern that’s essentially composed of 2 stitches (a yarn over and a decrease) and then arranged the raindrops to spill from the right shoulder. In keeping with my original salt inspiration, I chose an ivory color yarn for the sweater. Once I started knitting, the pattern also reminded me of distressed jeans. I omitted any waist shaping from the design to give it a more relaxed look in keeping with the “distressed” vibe of the stitch pattern. The soft yarn and relaxed fit make it a comfy sweater to wear on cold weekends.

The sweater is worked in the round to the armholes, then the upper back and front are worked flat separately. Sleeves are worked in the round to the cap, then worked flat and set in. The shoulders are sewn and the neckband stitches are picked up and worked in ribbing
