The rainbow flag is a symbol of the LGBTQ+ community. The spectrum of colors symbolizes the LGBTQ+ identity and solidarity.
This cowl design was inspired by a poster used for the first New York City Pride March in 1970, then called Christopher Street Liberation Day.
More information on the first Pride March can be found at the

PATTERN NOTES
- This cowl is worked in the round from the bottom to the top.
- The pattern uses 6 colors. The bottom/top stripes are worked in 1x1 ribbing, then the body of the cowl is worked in stranded knitting, with the unused color carried along the back of the work. Catch floats every 3–4 stitches.
- At the beginning and end of the motif, there is a round of solid MC. If the entire round is in a single color, you do not need to carry the unused contrasting color along the back of the work.
- Repeats will be expressed as “x”. For example, “x3” means repeat 3 times.
- Stranded knitting is prone to making the fabric pucker if you knit too tightly. Mind your tension and allow enough slack in the float.
