Raindrop
This hat was designed especially for handspun yarn but looks great in commercially spun yarn too. It is worked top down, in the round. Ear flaps are worked back and forth using short rows.
Yarn: Anything from fingering weight to Aran. Yardage
varies. Less than one skein.
Notions: 6 stitch markers, tapestry needle
Needles: circular needle (40 cm / 16in long) and dpns or
longer circular needle for magic loop method
Suggested needle sizes by yarn weight:
Fingering ~ 3mm/ US 2.5
Sport ~ 3.5mm / US 4
DK ~ 4mm / US 6
Worsted ~ 4.5mm / US 7
Aran ~ 5mm / US 8
To fit head circ. 16, (18, 20, 22) inches with approx 2 inches of negative ease
Gauge in garter stitch / 4 inch (10cm) square:
Fingering weight: 25 st and 52 rows
Sport weight: 22 st and 48 rows
DK weight: 20 st and 44 rows
Worsted weight: 18 st and 40 rows
Aran weight: 16 st and 36 rows
A firm but flexible fabric is desirable.
