I’ve designed this sweet little headband to keep my hair out of my eyes while I’m growing it out, but also wanted it to be pretty and delicate. It’s worked flat, beginning with a provisional cast-on. A section of ribbing for the back of the head reduces the width of the headband. It’s then worked in very simple, easy-to-remember lace until the desired length, then the ends are grafted together.

It’s a great way to use up scraps of whatever yarn leftovers you may have, and is a satisfyingly speedy project!

Measurements

Width: 3.5 cm / 1.5”
Circumference: Customisable

The sample shown is 54 cm / 21.25” circumference worn with 2.5 cm / 1” negative ease.

Yarn: I used two strands of 4-ply weight yarn held together for a DK weight. However, use any yarn you’d like; a finer yarn will make a narrower headband and a chunkier yarn will make a wider one. It’s the perfect chance to use up leftovers!

Approximately 15–20g yarn

Gauge: 9 sts of lace chart measure 3.5 cm / 1.5” wide (not essential)

Needles
For DK weight yarn:

3 mm / US 2 needles (or needle 2 sizes smaller than main needle)
3.75 mm / US 5 needles or whatever size needles work well for the lace with the yarn you’ve chosen

Notions: Scrap yarn, darning needle
