Raw Denim Cowl
This is for all of you who have sensitive skin and love a straight cowl cuddling around your neck. Those who love texture without frills and enjoy a bit more complex construction method. Lovers of stylish denim, creative recycling processes and gorgeous masculinity.
Construction
This unisex cowl is essentially made out of two cowls, which get joined together in a rather unusual way. An i-cord bind-off finish on each edge creates both strength and beauty.
What I love about the double layer construction is first of all its stability. I want my cowls to stay around my neck and keep me warm. I can promise you, this one does the job perfectly.
Above all, you cannot wear this one wrong. No matter how you toss and turn, there is no wrong side!
Which brings me to the texture…
Stockinette stitch and broken rib take turns in the golden ratio.
Depending on your mood, you can switch the textures back and forth however you like it most on each day.
Something more regarding the yarn
I love the whole idea of the yarn used in this pattern. It is made of recycled denim and gives those surplus fibers from the textile industry a new life.
I think it is creative and beautiful – two things I would love to see more in our crazy excessive world.
You might not be as much in love with this as I am and that’s okay. You can knit this cowl in a more classic set-up, like merino wool.
In that case you need to adjust and use worsted weight. Cotton needs very different needles and a more airy gauge. Make sure that you fit the gauge, you like the created texture and you are good to go.
One of my testers tried this set-up for you and we are both very happy with her result. So, you definitely have my permission to switch fibers and I can guarantee you it will work.
Enjoy & Relax!
