Pattern description from Stitch ‘n Bitch Nation: “I conceived this project because I wanted a hands-free shawl that I wouldn’t have to clutch to keep from falling off (which is a drag when you’re chasing after kids). In my art and in my knitting, I like working with light and shadow and using materials in unexpected ways, so I hit on the idea of making lace with bulky yarn. After a lot of swatching, the razor shell lace pattern rose to the top. The shape was inspired by a glorious cape worn by Donna Murphy in the Broadway show Wonderful Town. Even though the sides of this version don’t sweep the floor, you can still fling it insouciantly when you enter a room, or just let it drape beguilingly.”
