The undulating texture on these mitts is reminiscent of the tracks left by the Curiosity Rover on the surface of Mars. Red Rover is a quick knit, and a great leftovers project, as only 135 yards of dk weight yarn is required. Twisted ribbing on the cuff and up the sides of the mitts adds textural interest and extra stretch to accommodate a range of sizes. Length is easily added to these mitts, and the pattern repeat is short and easy to memorize. This pattern shows off colourful yarn nicely. Have fun using wild variegated yarn, or try a neutral to really see the texture pop.

Skills
Knit in the round, purl, work stitches through the back loop, increase, pick up stitches, cable cast on, bind off in ribbing, chart reading

Materials
Yarn: 1 skein Madeline Tosh, Tosh DK (100% Merino wool) in colour ‘Mars is Bright Tonight’
Yardage: used 135yds/123m of DK weight yarn. (I used 70g of the 115g skein) Any DK weight can be used, although I would recommend a wool or wool blend for the elasticity.
Needles: 4mm/US 6 circular needles 32”/80cm length for magic loop, OR 4mm/US6 double pointed needles
Scrap yarn, darning needle, 2 stitch markers

Gauge
22sts and 28 rounds/4” or 10cm in stockinette stitch

Size
One size: glove measures 6”/15cm around both palm and wrist when unstretched, and stretches comfortably to 9”/23cm around palm and wrist. Mitt is 10.5”/27cm long from cuff to cuff.
