My cat pillow is one of my book inspired pillows. It is inspired by Wendy Mass’ book, A Mango- Shaped Space. It was one of my favorite books when I was younger. Hence, the background is peach, and the cat is cream. However, you could try out some different color combinations. I recently made one with a black cat and a light pink background.
The front and the back of the pillow are both composed of rows of double crochet stitches. The color changes on the front side form the shape of the cat. There are some color changing tips and pictures included in the pattern to help you. The pillow is joined along three sides, and the bottom is held together with five buttons. This allows the pillowcase to be taken on and off the insert.
I used MillaMia yarn, but any sport weight yarn would work. You will need three balls of the background color, and two balls of the color of the cat. You will also need a 14 by 14 inch pillow insert and 5 buttons.
Note: I recently updated the pattern pdf. It now includes a color chart to help you keep track of all of the color changes!
