A cowl in a classic monochrome geometric pattern, enhanced with small details in a contrast colour as the eye-catching feature. The cowl is worked in the double knitting technique, which makes the cowl reversible and adds extra warmth.

Double-knit fabric is comprised of two layers of fabric worked simultaneously. It is worked in pairs of stitches, for each knit stitch worked on one side, a purl stitch is worked next for the other side. This technique creates a thick fabric, which seems to have two right sides, because the wrong sides are facing each other in the middle of the fabric.

Knitters can choose to work the geometric motif from the chart or the written instructions.

The pattern is written for the Provisional Crochet Cast On method, which can be replaced with your preferred provisional cast on method.

The contrast coloured diamonds (in red in the picture) are added at random using duplicate stitch.

Circumference approximately 71.5 cm (28.25”); 23.25 cm (9.25”) high. Circumference and height are adjustable: the circumference in increments of 14.25 cm (5.5”); the height as desired (see notes in the pattern).

250 g of a DK weight yarn with a yardage of approximately 125 m (137 yds) per 50 g ball in three contrasting colours: 2 balls in black (C1), 2 balls in white (C2), 1 ball in a bold colour for the details (C3)
Two 2.75 mm / US size 2 circular needles, 60 cm (24”) long
1 stitch marker, darning needle
For the Provisional Crochet Cast On: Waste yarn and a crochet hook one or two sizes larger than the knitting needles
