Sometimes inspiration strikes from the most surprising places. The colourwork pattern used in this cowl comes from a house in the game Overwatch. Set in a fictional version of Venice, this house has a beautiful tile pattern, that lends itself perfectly for knitting. While I don’t even enjoy playing the game, it is a lot of fun to watch and has wonderful graphics. So what can a knitter do but adapt it into something to keep yourself warm?
This pattern is so addictive, I also put in onto a sock and hat pattern!

Materials:

approx. 200m of MC yarn (beige)
approx. 10m of CC1 yarn (blue)
approx. 60m of CC1 yarn (orange)
2.5mm DPNs or needles for magic loop or size required to get gauge
tapestry needle, stitch markers (optional)

The pattern is written for knitting on DPNs, but can easily be adjusted to your favourite style of knitting socks. Consider putting markers where the next needle would start when working on DPNs, as the pattern often refers to the individual needles.

Size:

As this is a free pattern, it comes in only one size, approx. size 40 European with a foot circumference of approx. 20cm. You can knit it more tightly or losely to adjust the fit. Keep in mind that stranded colourwork has less stretch than plain stockinette stitch.
For comparison: I usually knit vanilla socks on 2mm with 72 stitches. Knit on 2.5mm, 64 stitches will give me a good fit.

The length of the foot can be adjusted easily as it doesn’t matter much where in the chart you stop knitting.

Yarn:

Any regular fingering weight sock yarn in solid or semisolid colours will work well. Using variegated or even speckled yarns might also lead to interesting results, but keep the contrast to the between the colours used next to each other high enough.

The colourwork is fully charted, with additional written instructions for ribbing, heel, toe and finishing.
