Like veins of colorful quartz that flow through cracks in granite, undulating thin stripes of a contrasting color break up solid blocks of garter stitch in this bias-knit, asymmetrical shawl. Only one row in 32 requires some concentration - the rest is garter stitch with easy shaping.
The ‘veins’ are a great use for highly variegated yarns or colorful leftovers. Samples shown were knit in Malabrigo Mechita in Natural with Anniversario and Sand Bank with Marte.
Skills required:
• Increasing
• Decreasing
• Yarn overs
Materials:
• 900 yards of fingering-weight yarn – 785 yards of the main color (solid) and 115 yards of the contrasting color
• US 4/3.5 mm needles, or size needed to obtain gauge
• Stitch markers
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Kudos to Martina Behm for coming up with this unique way to shape a triangular shawl! Her Thousand Tulips was the original :)
